How to Make a WhatsApp Link (wa.me) + QR Code

A WhatsApp "click to chat" link opens a conversation with you — no saving your number first. It's perfect for bios, ads, and storefronts. The raw wa.me link is clunky, though, so we'll shorten it and add a QR code too.

The basic WhatsApp link

WhatsApp uses the format https://wa.me/<number> with your full international number (no +, spaces, or dashes). You can also pre-fill a message so the chat starts with context, e.g. "Hi, I'd like to order…".

Make it clean and trackable

  1. Build your wa.me link with your number and optional pre-filled text.
  2. Shorten it in the link creator and give it a custom slug like /chat.
  3. Grab the QR code that's generated automatically for print and packaging.
  4. Add it to your link-in-bio page as a "Message us on WhatsApp" button.

Where to use it

  • Instagram and TikTok bios (one tap to chat).
  • Business cards and flyers (via the QR code).
  • Email signatures and ad campaigns.

Because it runs through a short link, you'll see how many people click to chat. Pair it with a link in bio for Instagram to capture more conversations.
